TRIMM'S MISSION

TRIMM's mission is to undergird the proclamation work of the churches in the New York broadcast market and thereby to enhance the quality of life, interreligious understanding and heighten tolerance within the New York Metro.

To serve this mission, we strive:

+ to provide professional guidance, counsel and production assistance to churches of all denominations in the New York market area that wish to establish a media-related activity within the life of their parish. We encourage local churches to incorporate these media into their ministries - radio or television programs, power point presentations, films and videos, the Internet and other applications of the new media technologies.

+ to strengthen the role of mass media in contemporary society. Radio and television need new regulations requiring restoration of payment for the use of the public's airwaves for private commercial industry. License holders should present community-based broadcasts that serve the tastes, needs and desires of the locality in which the license holder is authorized to operate a broadcast facility.

+ to provide information, guidance and counsel on religious subjects and church-related matters to secular media outlets to help them to be more reliable and accurate when presenting religious news, broadcasts on church-related matters or dramatic programs with plots involving ecclesiastical subjects.

+ to work with the public and with the broadcast media to help them appreciate their impact on public culture and how the can provide more positive influences for the benefit of all society. And to remind all of us of the obligation to see each person as a child of God is created in God's image.

TRIMM will, therefore, challenge the media to provide responsible community service. TRIMM will also encourage the public to remember their relationship with God the creator and be judicious and thoughtful when responding to what they see and hear in mass media programs.
